Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup birria sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 burger buns
  • 1 cup shredded cheese cheddar or Monterey Jack
  • 1 cup diced onions
  • 1 cup chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges for serving

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, birria sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
  5. Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on a bun and topping with diced onions and chopped cilantro. Serve with lime wedges on the side.

  • For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños to the burger mixture or top with spicy salsa.
  • For a lighter option, use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef and pork, and serve on lettuce wraps instead of buns.
