Step-by-Step Instructions for Puff Pastry Croque Madame
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and gather all your ingredients and equipment.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into four squares. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, poking holes in the centers.
  3. Whisk together the egg wash and brush over pastry edges, sprinkling a pinch of kosher salt.
  4. Layer ham on each pastry square, leaving a circle in the center for the egg, and sprinkle with gruyere cheese.
  5. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.
