Method

Step‑By‑Step Instructions for Halloween Trifle
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, dark cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: warm water, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry until fully combined. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake for 35-45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool before cutting it into cubes.
  2. While the chocolate cake cools, grab a medium bowl and whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and whole milk for 2-3 minutes, ensuring it’s completely smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator to chill for about 10-15 minutes.
  3. For the whipped topping, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar in a large bowl until smooth. Slowly incorporate the heavy whipping cream, continuing to mix until stiff peaks form.
  4. In a clear trifle dish or glasses, start by layering chocolate cake cubes at the bottom. Add vanilla pudding, followed by whipped cream. Repeat until reaching the top, finishing with whipped cream.
  5. Top the last layer of whipped cream with mini chocolate chips, crumbled fun-sized candy bars, gummy eyeballs, and Halloween sprinkles.
