Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Core and slice 3 Granny Smith apples into small, uniform pieces.
  3. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a medium saucepan and add the apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla. Cook for about 5 minutes.
  4. Roll out the refrigerated pie dough and divide it into 6 equal circles about 5-6 inches in diameter.
  5. Spoon 1/4 to 1/3 cup of the cooled apple filling onto the center of each dough circle.
  6. Fold each dough circle over the filling to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges.
  7. Place the sealed turnovers on a parchment-lined baking sheet and cut small slits on top.
  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle granulated sugar on top.
  9. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.
