Ingredients

Main Dish
  • 12 oz Chicken Sausage Savory and hearty, providing essential protein; swap for turkey or veggie sausage if desired.
  • 8 oz Orzo Pasta Can be replaced with ditalini or pastina, adjusting cooking time as needed.
  • 2 cups Broccoli Adds color and nutrition; frozen broccoli works well.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Fresh garlic is ideal, but garlic powder can save time.
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese Use Pecorino if Parmesan isn’t available.
  • 4 cups Chicken Bone Broth Regular chicken stock is a perfect substitute.
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil Used for sautéing sausage and veggies; any cooking oil will do.
  • to taste Black Pepper Essential for seasoning.
  • to taste Kosher Salt Essential for seasoning.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. Begin by heating a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drizzle in a splash of olive oil, swirling it around to coat the bottom evenly.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add sliced chicken sausage to the skillet, arranging them in a single layer. Sauté for about 3 minutes per side until golden-brown.
  3. Next, toss in minced garlic along with the orzo pasta to the skillet. Stir constantly for about 1 minute.
  4. Incorporate the chopped broccoli into the mixture. Season with salt and black pepper, then let everything cook together for about 5 minutes.
  5. Now, pour in the chicken bone broth and raise the heat slightly to bring the liquid to a gentle boil. Cover and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  6. After the orzo has cooked to perfection, remove the skillet from heat and stir in shredded parmesan cheese until it melts.
  7. Serve the dish immediately while still warm, optionally garnishing with additional parmesan and black pepper.
