Ingredients

  • 3 pounds beef brisket
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Rub this spice mixture all over the brisket.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the brisket for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove the brisket and set aside.
  4. In the same pot, add the sliced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
  5. Pour in the beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Stir to combine, then return the brisket to the pot.
  6. Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven. Cook for 3-4 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  7. Once cooked, remove the brisket from the pot and let it rest for 15 minutes. Use two forks to shred the meat.
  8. Return the shredded beef to the pot and stir it into the sauce. Let it simmer on low for 10-15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
