- 2 slices of sourdough bread
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup cooked chicken, shredded
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- In a bowl, mix the shredded chicken with marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Place one slice of sourdough bread in the skillet. Top with half of the mozzarella cheese.
- Spread the chicken mixture evenly over the cheese.
- Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top of the chicken.
- Place the second slice of sourdough bread on top and press down gently.
- Cook for about 3-4 minutes or until the bottom slice is golden brown.
- Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the other side is golden and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and garnish with fresh basil if desired.
Notes
- For a spicy kick, add crushed red pepper flakes to the chicken mixture.
- Substitute the chicken with turkey or use a plant-based protein for a vegetarian option.
