Description
A delicious recipe for Southern Fried Shrimp that is sure to impress your guests with its crispy texture and flavorful seasoning.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce (if using). Add the shrimp and let them marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- In another bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F.
- Remove the shrimp from the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off. Dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- Carefully place the coated shrimp in the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as cocktail sauce or remoulade.
Notes
- For extra crunch, try adding 1/2 cup of cornmeal to the flour mixture.
- For a spicy twist, toss the fried shrimp in a mixture of melted butter and hot sauce before serving.
